History of Sand Yachting
Sand yachting is a wind-powered vehicle with sails, mainly used on beaches and sandy areas. Its origins go back many centuries, with early traces found in ancient times. Ancient Egyptians and Phoenicians already used sail-powered boats to sail on the water. However, modern land-based sand yachting began in the early 20th century.
The first modern prototypes were designed and tested in France in the 1900s. Baron René de Knyff is often recognized as one of the pioneers of sand yachting. The first official sand yachting competitions took place in France in the 1920s.
Since then, sand yachting has become a popular sport practiced in many countries. It has evolved with the introduction of new technologies and lighter materials.
